SPAR stores to debut at Roadchef motorway service areas

Roadchef has teamed up with SPAR to introduce SPAR stores at its motorway service areas.

Two pilot stores will be launched at Strensham on the M5 and Northampton on the M1 with the Strensham store opening at the beginning of July. If the trial is successful, SPAR stores will be rolled out in other Roadchef locations within the next few years.

Simon Turl, chief executive of Roadchef, said: “We spent a great deal of time analysing a wide range of options available to us in the marketplace to best match what our customers have told us they require from a grocery store on the motorway. We chose the SPAR brand due to their industry-leading store design and presentation together with the strength of their distribution platform which gives us access to a huge range of products at great value prices.”

The SPAR stores will follow the brand’s latest convenience store design. Roadchef said the stores will offer a number of more artisan offerings, in addition to everyday food items, to meet an increased demand from motorists for a wider range of healthy, fresh produce at motorway service areas.

Debbie Robinson, managing director of SPAR UK, said: “We are looking forward to showcasing our latest store concept on these two sites, which will include a bakery and our new Daily Deli foodservice offering; and to appealing to customers with our award-winning SPAR brand range.”
