SPAR International opens first stores in Oman
SPAR International has opened its first stores in Oman.
Launched in partnership with local retail operator the Khimji Ramdas Group, the new stores are part of SPAR’s plans to strengthen its presence in the Middle East through its co-operative venture with the Abu Dhabi Co-operative Society.
Situated in the Omani capital Muscat, the stores incorporate SPAR’s multi-format offering and include a 700 square metre SPAR supermarket as well as a 250 square metre SPAR Express store.
SPAR International has over 12,000 stores worldwide and reported global retail sales of €32.2 billion in 2013. The new stores in Oman are the first of nine planned openings across the Sultanate by the end of 2016.
David Moore, SPAR International business development director, said “Our continued partnership with the Khimji Ramdas Group in Oman is consistent with SPAR International’s strategic focus on partnering with leading local and regional chains in growth markets in the Middle East. Together we unite the best of SPAR’s global retail expertise and the Khimji Ramdas Group’s extensive and longstanding understanding of the Omani customer.”
The Khimji Ramdas Group’s retail portfolio includes 60 supermarkets ranging from 300 to 3,000 square metres. It has an annual turnover of more than $1 billion and employs more than 5,000 employees across Oman, the UAE and India.
