Somerfield launches franchise package
Supermarket targets independents for c-store growth
UK supermarket retailer Somerfield is targeting independent retailers with a franchise package in a drive to grow its sales in the convenience store sector.
Somerfield aims to expand its fresh food-driven offer into more local and small store formats. Independent retailers are offered a tailored business plan which includes marketing and supply of products.
The package allow independents to affiliate themselves to a major supermarket brand, and is designed to ‘significantly drive their turnover forward in what is an increasingly competitive market place’, said Somerfield.
Somerfield’s franchise development director Norman Kears, said:”We believe that local convenience stores must be built on understanding the needs of local communities and addressing what customers really want – really fresh foods, a pleasant environment and great service. These are the elements that keep consumers coming back for more.
“We are confident we can deliver all the back-up and support that our partners need added to their own local knowledge, independent flair and passion that will appeal to their neighbourhood shoppers. Together we are a formidable combination – get it right and the potential is enormous.”
The company said franchise partners will benefit from new store planning and product development, as well as national advertising, local promotions and a range of tailored activities for each store. Access to Somerfield’s Saver Card loyalty scheme is also offered.
