Sock Shop to return to the high street
Legwear retailer Sock Shop is to make a return to the high street with the opening of its first bricks and mortar shop following the closure of its stores in 2006.
The 400 square foot concept store will open at Manchester Arndale in September as part of owner Ruia Group’s expansion plans.
Ruia Group is owned by five Ruia brothers who acquired Sock Shop in 2006. Originally founded in 1983, Sock Shop was one of the most popular sock retailers in the UK with 52 stores across the country.
Since the acquisition, Sock Shop has been retailing through its international e-commerce platform, sockshop.co.uk.
Amit Ruia said: “We’re delighted to have taken Sock Shop into a position to launch back into retail. It was always our strategy to re-launch into retail when the time was right, so this a significant date in the Ruia family business.”
Since the acquisition, The Ruia Group has redeveloped the Sock Shop range to include the launch of Sock Shop’s own label of socks such as the Novelty Sock collection, Heat Holders and Gentle Grip ranges.
