Smyths predicts biggest toy shopping day of the year as 26 November

Smyths Toys Superstores is predicting that its biggest shopping day of the year will be Monday 26 November with particularly strong trade online as more of its customers choose to do their toy shopping on the internet.

Dryden Geary, marketing manager for Smyths Toys Superstores, explained: “As the Christmas season begins to get into full swing, we’ve seen a huge increase in visitors to our stores and we expect this increase to peak on Monday 26 November.”

He added: “It’s becoming quite common for parents to do their entire Christmas toy shopping online and we can clearly see this trend through the additional growth in customers shopping cart sizes on our online store.”

The retailer has also released information on the number of toys the average child receives as Christmas presents. Its research shows that children in the UK receive an average of 11 toys at Christmas while in Spain the figure jumps to 17. Gifts were shown to include one main present and a range of lower price stocking fillers and secondary presents. In addition, the retailer found that half of all spending on Christmas gifts in Europe is allocated to children.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

Smyths Toys Superstores has recently opened new stores in Fareham and Thurrock taking the total number of UK outlets to 60.
