Smiggle to debut in Milton Keynes

Smiggle, the Australian children’s stationery brand, is to make its debut in Milton Keynes with the opening of a new store at Centre:mk.

Due to launch in the early autumn, the 696 square foot store will be situated at 38 Midsummer Arcade, adjacent to River Island and The Fragrance Shop.

With over 160 shops across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, Smiggle began a large-scale expansion in the UK in Feb 2014 and will have 35 stores trading in the UK by the end of the year. The Centre:mk store is Smiggle’s 29th UK store and will stock ‘must-have’ stationery for school, homework and holidays.

Smiggle managing director, John Cheston, said: “Milton Keynes was always key to our expansion plan in the South East due to the great catchment of this area. Centre:mk as a destination has a perfect location, set amongst an exciting number of brands, and we’re thrilled to open our next store here.”

Speaking on behalf of Centre:mk’s joint owners, Hermes Investment Management and AustralianSuper, Ed Sellick, added: “The addition of Smiggle is a natural fit for the family-friendly character of Centre:mk, especially within Midsummer Arcade and will also benefit from the high footfall we attract. Smiggle complements our unique mix and strong line-up of retailers, highlighting Milton Keynes as a leading retail destination for national and international brands.”

The news follows the recent announcement that Tiger plans to open a store at Centre:mk. Recent openings at the centre include Cath Kidston, The White Company and Jigsaw.
