Sir Tom Hunter sells D2

Clothing and footwear chain d2 has been sold by Sir Tom Hunter’s investment company WCC to management in a multi-million-pound deal.

Hunter said the move was part of plans to “declutter” WCC’s retail operation, with the major focus now on larger businesses such as Wyevale and House of Fraser. Managing director Alan Kinney led the management buyout. He said that, despite a “tough” retail market, he was confident the new owners could make progress.
“This will give all the team at d2 the opportunity to continue to grow the business and benefit from its long-term success,” Kinney said. “Whilst retail is tough right now, our mid-market position and our ability to move fast in delivering fashion to the marketplace will, we are sure, see us move forward positively on the high street.”
