Sir John Timpson to join board of Barclays Bank
Barclays Bank has announced that Sir John Timpson, chairman of the Timpson shoe repair and key cutting chain, will be joining its new board.
Sir John will become one of the eight independent non-executive directors at the bank. The appointment will take effect from 1 January 2018, subject to regulatory approval.
Barclays has created a new board in advance of ring-fencing legislation which will see the Barclays UK business transfer from Barclays Bank to a separate legal entity, Barclays Bank UK. The transfer is expected to take place next April, subject to Court approval. The board will, on separation, assume responsibility for the Barclays UK business.
The search for board members has been led by Sir Ian Cheshire, chairman of the Barclays Bank UK board and non-executive director of Barclays. He is also the former chief executive of Kingfisher where brands include the DIY chain B&Q.
