Shoppers flood to High Street as internet deadlines pass
The latest figures from the Retail FootFall Index FootFall, show that the Christmas rush is building fast, with shopper numbers between Monday and Thursday increasing by 22.6 per cent compared to the same period last week.
However, while retail footfall is steadily increasing, it remains far below the levels seen in 2005 with year-on-year comparisons standing at a disappointing -10.7 per cent.
Natasha Burton, spokesperson at FootFall comments “The threat from online retail has dominated the high street this year, with retailers suffering from decreased shopper numbers throughout the crucial festive period.
“However, with the final dates for online ordering now past, consumers are flooding back to the high street. We are seeing footfall levels increase dramatically each day and are expecting that this weekend will significantly boost retailers fortunes as last-minute shoppers make up for a slow December on the retail front,”.
