Shop’N Drive chooses RNIB as first Charity of the Year
National sight loss charity RNIB has been selected as the first ever Charity of the Year by petrol forecourt retailer Shop’N Drive.
This means that the charity could receive up to £1 million from Shop’N Drive’s ‘Round it Up’ appeal which allows customers to ‘top up’ their credit or debit card transaction with a charity donation.
Some 160 Shop’N Drive stores situated at Esso petrol station forecourts give motorists the option to make a 25 pence donation when paying for their fuel and other items. So far over £100,000 has been raised as part of the appeal which is being delivered by ‘digital charity box’ Pennies.
It is the first time that the Pennies scheme has been run at a petrol station.
Giles Taylor, operations director at Shop’N Drive owner Rontec, said: “We are proud to be the first UK forecourt retailer to give customers the chance to make a small – but collectively significant – donation to charity.
“The scheme is proving that a little really does go a long way to raising large sums of money for a very worthy cause. We hope we can reach our £1 million target for RNIB to benefit its work with those who are blind or partially sighted.”
Wanda Hamilton, RNIB’s group director of fundraising, added: “We’re delighted to have been chosen by Shop’N Drive as their Charity of the Year and would like to thank them and their customers for their support. The Pennies scheme proves that every penny really does count and I’m delighted that this fantastic partnership will help us deliver our work supporting the two million people in the UK who have sight loss.”
Pennies is available in a range of national retailers, local merchants and charity shops. So far it has received over 15 million consumer donations raising more than £3 million for charity.
