Shiseido Company names new chief executive
Shiseido Company has announced that Kentaro Fujiwara is to become its new chief executive.
The news follows his appointment in 2022 as president and chief operating officer and his nomination as a candidate for succeeding Masahiko Uotani in the chief executive role. Since then, the two executives have been been working together to complete a successful leadership transition for the Japanese beauty group.
Fujiwara will take up his new position from 1 January when Uotani will become senior advisor for the Shiseido Company. Uotani will then provide advice, support talent development, and engage in external relations until he retires as a director of the company at the conclusion of the group’s Ordinary General Meeting next March.
In a statement, Shiseido Company said: “As we have confirmed that steady progress has been made on our succession plan, the board has adopted a resolution today to make above change in leadership. As a result, Masahiko Uotani will be retiring as chairman and CEO as of December 31, 2024 upon completion of his tenure as previously announced.”
