Sense to open 100th charity shop
Sense, the national disability charity, has chosen Blackpool for the opening of its 100th retail outlet.
Due to open on 3 November, the new shop will mark an important milestone for the organisation as it continues to implement its growth strategy with 15 shops planned to open in 2017.
The Blackpool shop opening will be marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and in-store activity for the public, including children’s entertainer and a prize giveaway for a new Apple iPad.
Situated on Abingdon Street, the shop will stock clothing, accessories, books, music, films and bric-a-brac.
Sense shops receive over 900,000 donations a year, with around a thousand volunteers contributing to the success.
Sense director of trading Adrian Darkin said: “The income that our shops generate is vital for enabling us to support deafblind people and those with complex needs. Our 100th shop is a real milestone – we couldn’t survive without the generosity of the general public – whether it’s people volunteering their time, or providing us with donations. We’re incredibly grateful and would like to thank everyone that’s contributed to our success.”
Last year, Sense celebrated 60 years of providing support to deafblind people. It opened its first charity shop in Petts Wood in 1986. Sense shops now have a presence across the country, with 2.2 million transactions each year.
