Selfridges and Harrods to open Christmas areas a month early

Harrods and Selfridges are to open their Christmas departments a month early this year according to a report in the Daily Mail.

The retailers have said that they are looking to benefit from the influx of Chinese visitors to the UK in the summer months which has created a new demand for luxury goods as well as for their exclusive Christmas decorations.

Demand for the seasonal products has grown so high that there are even proposals to keep Christmas shops open all year round.

Last year, Selfridges saw record sales at its Christmas shop with more  than 2,000 baubles being sold in the first seven days alone.

Geraldine James, Christmas shop buying manager at Selfridges, told The Daily Mail:”Christmas is coming earlier each year. I can see a time when we offer a capsule Christmas collection throughout the year.

“We are famous globally for our exclusive Christmas decorations and this year we are looking forward to transforming our customers’ homes all over the world.”

The early opening, which will take place this Thursday, means shoppers can enjoy 150 days of shopping before the big day.
