ScS Upholstery sees orders up

Stronger sales for furniture retailer
February 9 2004
Furniture retailer ScS Upholstery has seen a upturn in orders, putting the company on track for an expansion programme that will see five new stores open this year.

With furniture retailers generally reporting tough trading as competition increases, ScS executive chairman Mike Browne told shareholders in an AGM statement: “The ScS January sale has been a successful period for the Group. We are pleased to report that total sales order intake for the first 18 weeks of this financial year was significantly higher than the same period last year.
“Like-for-like sales order intake has strengthened since the final results announcement in December and is currently 6 per cent up.”
Browne said an initiative to boost margins has had an impact, with the benefits expected to kick in as the current financial year progresses.
He said: “Our expansion plans for the remainder of this financial year are to open five more stores in the second half. With current trading in line with our expectations we look forward to reporting on our progress as the year advances.”
ScS also announced that finance director Sacha Beere has resigned, but will remain in post until a successor is appointed.
