ScS to start selling carpets

Sofa retailer ScS has announced that it is to start selling carpets across its ten North East stores before rolling out the offering nationwide.

The Sunderland based business, which has 96 stores in the UK, has appointed former Storeys managing director Charles Coombs to oversee the launch and take charge of training over 100 ScS employees throughout the North East.

Coombs has over 30 years of experience in the carpet industry.

David Knight, chief executive of ScS said: “The UK carpet industry is worth an estimated £1 billion and with our nationwide chain of stores we have created some exciting potential, which we intend to maximise with the specialist help of Charles. We’re incredibly excited to have Charles on board, and his wealth of specialist knowledge and experience in carpet retail is invaluable to us in developing the carpet offering.”

He continued: “We’ve concentrated for many years on growing the business, but we have recently taken feedback that people tend to be buying a carpet when they are redoing their lounge and sofa.

“There’s a huge opportunity for us to offer the whole package. It gives us a real USP.
