ScS recovers as weather cools
Furniture chain sees like-for-likes lift
October 17 2003
Sofa specialist ScS upholstery has seen sales recover since the UK weather returned to more normal temperatures.
In common with other UK furniture retailers, the 55-store saw sales hit across the summer heatwave. The company said the hot weather had a negative impact on like-for-like sales orders, which hit delivered orders in the year to the end of September.
ScS reported that like-for-like sales order intake for the full year was down 2 per cent, which meant profits would be below market expectations.
The company said that once the weather returned to normal in early September, trading saw an immediate upturn. Like-for-like sales orders for September and the first two weeks of this current of October are up 2.5 per cent.
ScS continues to expand, with three stores opening since the year end.
