ScS driving sales in competitive market

Sales up across first half
Furniture retailer ScS Upholstery has outperformed some of its main rivals in the increasingly competitive UK furniture market.

Across the six months to the end of March, ScS has seen total sales significantly higher than the same period last year, with like-for-like sales up 7 per cent.
Despite the UK’s furniture specialists seeing increasing competition from players such as Marks & Spencer, Next and Argos, ScS said it has seen strong trading and higher margins since the beginning of its January sale. It has also converted orders into deliveries faster than expected, further boosting margins.
Four new stores opened during the first half, with plans for four more this year, which will bring the total to 64. All the new stores are in existing regional trading areas, which brings advertising and distribution benefits.
ScS said it expects to report pre-tax profits for the six months ‘materially ahead’ of last year.
