Screwfix still limiting orders

Kingfisher business challenged by high customer demand
Online DIY retailer Screwfix.com is having to limit orders as it continues to experience problems with high levels of demand, exacerbated by inexperienced staff at its new depot.

The Kingfisher-owned business, which moved its warehouse from Yeovil to Stoke-on-Trent earlier this year, stopped taking orders on Tuesday. On wednesday morning, a message on the site said Screwfix was taking orders for delivery on Thursday, and “will continue to accept orders whilst we have the capacity to maintain our next day delivery promise”.
In September, Screwfix stopped taking orders for several days as it worked to clear a backlog. The company has said that it is still training picking and packing staff at the Stoke depot, but that the main issue is now high levels of demand.
Managing director John Allan said in a statement on the website: “Everyone is working flat out to bring our new warehouse up to speed, but in the short term we are not able to meet all of our usual demand.
“We are now handling double the number of orders that we were three weeks ago and are making steady progress towards being able to keep Screwfix.com open all the time.”
