Salford Shopping Centre submits plans for extension
The owners of Salford Shopping Centre have submitted a planning application to extend the centre. The expansion will create 300 new full and part time jobs at the centre which was a target of last month’s riots.
Salford Estates, which bought the centre in 2010, has submitted plans to add 13 new double-height, modern shop units to the centre to accommodate a wider range of retailers.
The plans also include a new market hall and Salford Estates said its has been working closely with the Federation of Market Traders on the design of the new hall to ensure it is fit for purpose.
Debbie Illingworth from Salford Estates said: “These changes will transform the shopping experience at the centre. Big brand retailers demand modern, double height shops and by providing these together with some smaller units and significantly improved space for the market traders we can expand the range of shops on offer in areas like sports and fashion.
“We are focused on moving forward from the recent events in and around Salford Shopping Centre and are wholly committed to the long-term future and prosperity of the Centre and being part of its success.
It is expected that the application will be considered by Salford City Council in November.
