GENERAL MERCHANDISE NEWS

Sales rise at Land of Leather.

Land of Leather has emerged form the crucial christmas trading period with a strong sales perfomance.

For 17 weeks from 2 October 2005 to 29 January 2006 total sales order intake was up 28.5%.Like for like sales orders were up 5.5%.
On 14th January 2006 the company issued notice to terminate the informal concession arrangements with Homestyle Group plc which operates 30 concessions in our stores.
The company said “We have concluded a formal, long term agreement with The Sleep Depot to open bed concessions in these 30 stores and to open a further 15 concessions in our other stores over the next six months. The Sleep Depot has recently been established by former directors of Benson Beds. These additional concessions are consistent with our strategy of letting mezzanine levels and other surplus space within our stores to third parties as set out in the flotation prospectus”.Paul Briant, Chief Executive, said: “The January sale period is a key trading time for upholstery retailers. I am delighted that our development efforts in the areas of product range and marketing have resulted in a solid sales performance in a more challenging trading environment. We are now fully focussed on ensuring these sales are successfully delivered by the end of our financial year on 2 April 2006”
