Sales flat at Body Shop
Like for likes fall in challenging global market

Total Christmas retail sales flat were flat at Body Shop in the ten weeks to January 4, and are up just 2 per cent in the year to date.
Like for like sale were down 2 per cent in the run-up to Christmas, and are down 1 per cent across be year, as the retailer faces challenging trading conditions in all regions except Asia Pacific. In the UK and Ireland, like for like sales across the 10 weeks were down three per cent Body shop said the 2 per cent fall on the year to date is an improvement on the half year position of –3 per cent.
Like for likes were down 4 per cent in the Americas and 3 per in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region in the run-up to Christmas, while Asia Pacific saw like-for-like growth of 3 per cent. The Body Shop at Home business “continues to grow at a very high rate in the US and Australia, and performance in the UK has improved since the half year.”
Body Shop has appointed Peter Ridler as Managing Director for the UK & Ireland from April. Peter was previously managing director at Staples, and previously worked at Tesco. Alastair Kerr, previously with Kwik Fit, Virgin Retail and Storehouse, has been appointed as Regional Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa from February.
