Saks owner HBC appoints Liberty managing director Ed Burstell as head of partnerships

Hudson’s Bay Company, the owner of the Hudsons Bay, Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue department store chains, has appointed Ed Burstell to the newly created role of head of partnerships.

Burstell will join HBC in December after eight years with Liberty where he was managing director. During his time at the London department store, its partnerships included collaborations and pop-up shops with Hermes and Manolo Blahnik as well as collaborations with Nike and Uniqlo.

Prior to Liberty, Burstell was a senior vice president of accessories, footwear, fine jewellery, designer jewellery, cosmetics and fragrance at Bergdorf Goodman and other previous roles include general manager of Henri Bendel and cosmetics buyer at Bloomingdales.

In his new position, Burstell will develop and lead partnerships across all of HBC’s banners globally. He will report to HBC’s chief executive Jerry Storch as a member of the senior leadership team.

Storch said: “HBC is focused on innovation, collaboration and developing unique partnerships as part of our strategy to differentiate. Ed’s roster of successful launches and collaborations, matched with his reputation as a true arbiter of fashion, makes him the obvious choice to lead this new division for Hudson’s Bay Company.”
