Sainsbury’s trials Mobile Scan & Go

Sainsbury’s is trialling a new service that lets customers scan items as they shop using their iPhone or Android phone and pay without unloading their trolley or bags at the till.

The new Mobile Scan & Go app, the first of its kind in the UK, is being piloted in three of the supermarket’s stores with a limited number of customers.

Once they have downloaded the app from the Apple App or Google Play stores, customers register using their Nectar card and details of the store where they want to shop. They then log in to the app with their Nectar card details and Scan the ‘Check in’ QR code located at the front of the store to start shopping.

Using the phone’s camera to scan the barcode on products as they place them in their trolley or bags, customers are able track how much they have spent and instantly see savings with offers and deals. When customers are ready to pay for their goods, they are asked to scan the ‘Check out’ QR code located at the store’s self-scan or manned tills.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

Luke Jensen, Sainsbury’s group development director said: “We’re always looking for ways to enhance the shopping experience for our customers. Our innovative Mobile Scan & Go technology is fantastic for those wanting to manage their budget or simply those who want a quicker in-store experience.”

A limited number of Nectar card customers have been invited to take part in the trial at stores in  Bethnal Green,  Clerkenwell and Tadley.
