Sainsburys posts 15th quarter of consecutive like-for-like sales growth

Sainsbury has said that underlying profit before tax rose by 13.3 per cent at the interim stage on sales that were up by 7.6 per cent.
Total sales for the first half were up 8.3 per cent (5.0 per cent excluding fuel) and like-for-like sales were up 7.4 per cent (3.9 per cent excluding fuel). The group said it is seeing continued growth in customer numbers and now processes around 18m customer transactions each week. Justin King, Chief Executive, said: ‘Our universal customer appeal has been fundamental to our sustained performance and we have continued to invest in both product quality and competitive pricing.
