Sainsbury’s launches new graduate training programme

Sainsbury’s has announced the launch of a revamped graduate training programme which has been designed to identify the retailer’s next generation of business talent and give graduates wider exposure to the business.

The retailer’s existing graduate training programme has been redeveloped to ensure graduates receive exposure to the entire Sainsbury’s business and take on responsibility more quickly.

All of the graduates on the new Sainsbury’s 2020 Leaders Programme will start with a four month placement in a store over the Christmas period which will be followed by a series of placements and projects right across Sainsbury’s business.

Graduates will work closely with the directors and will be fully immersed in the Sainsbury’s corporate culture.

During the second part of the Programme graduates will  move into a series of management positions, leading a team of their own and experiencing the breadth of the business environment.

Gwyn Burr, Sainsbury’s customer service & colleague director, said: “The 2020 Leaders Programme represents a fantastic opportunity for graduates. It will offer candidates the opportunity to take on roles that will make a genuine difference to Sainsbury’s and its customers.”

He added: “At the end of the programme, we hope these graduates will be taking on management positions and by 2020, be influential leaders of the business.”

Applications for the programme open on Wednesday 31 August. Sainsbury’s is also offering up to ten paid placements for 12 months, six months and over the summer. These are available to both graduates and current students.
