Sainsbury’s director moving to Argos
Sara Weller to head GUS-owned retail group
Sainsbury’s has announced that Sara Weller, deputy managing director of its supermarket business, is leaving the company to become managing director of Argos.
Weller is known to have been a candidate for the managing director role at Sainsbury’s. Her departure coincides with the arrival of the successful candidate, former M&S head of food Justin King.
Weller leaves at the end of June to take up her new role at GUS-owned Argos. She joined Sainsbury’s in January 2000 as marketing director and was appointed to the board in January 2002, taking on her current role last year. She has been responsible for strategic planning, marketing, human resources and Sainsbury’s Bank.
Group chief executive Sir Peter Davis, said: “Sara has been a central member of our senior management team and has made a significant contribution at a time of great change for the company. On behalf of the management and the board, I would like to thank her for her commitment and wish her every success in her new role.”
Before joining Sainsbury’s, Weller was retail marketing director at Abbey National, and also spent 13 years in a range of roles at Mars Confectionery UK.
