Sainsbury’s appoints new Trading Director

Stephen Nelson to rejoin UK supermarket operator
April 23 2003
Sainsbury’s has appointed of Stephen Nelson as trading director of its supermarket business.

The move will mark a return to the UK supermarket operator for Nelson, who held several positions with Sainsbury’s, including managing its drinks business, before joining Diageo in 1996.
In his new role, which he takes up in July, Nelson will oversee the supermarket chain’s trading functions, leading and co-ordinating five key departments. Along with fresh and convenient food, ambient food, drink and general merchandise he will also be responsible for quality, innovation, and procurement.
Stuart Mitchell, Sainsbury’s Managing Director said; “I’m delighted that Stephen is coming back to Sainsbury’s and bringing with him a wealth of broad trading experience within drink, food and home electronics markets. It is very good to have someone so talented returning to the business.”
