River Island says manufacturing in the UK is paying off
14 February, 2012 | by Retail Bulletin
High street fashion retailer River Island has said manufacturing more of its clothing in the UK has helped to grow sales.
The company said it had increased the number of items manufactured at home by around 50% as rising labour costs in China make it more viable to produce goods in the UK. The move has resulted in increased efficiencies and a boost to sales.
Ben Lewis, River Island chief executive, said: “It has allowed us to get new fashion to our customers much quicker than we were able to, and as a result some of those products have become absolute bestsellers. We can get more of them and work closely with the factories.”
Lewis added: “With clever design you can hold the price to something affordable.”
