Retailers head to Cardiff St Davids

New deals at shopping centre
September 30 2003
The St David’s Centre, Cardiff has secured a double whammy of retail deals as the Gadget Shop and streetwear specialist, Animal, open at South Wales’ largest shopping centre.

The latest lettings mean the centre is now fully occupied, with the new outlets creating 21 jobs between them.
Helen Morgan, marketing executive for St David’s Centre, said: “Both the Gadget Shop and Animal add to the current offering for our shoppers. They are both likely to be an added draw to the younger end of our market and are both vibrant outlets, offering live selling demonstrations and entertainment for our visitors.
“It’s great that both deals are complete so the stores can open their doors in time for Christmas.”
Matthew Nowell, retail project manager at The Gadget Shop, said: “This is our largest store to date, as well as a bit of a flagship store for us. We already have a Cardiff high street store which is really successful. We were keen to increase our presence in South Wales and as we have a preference for locating in shopping malls, as soon as the St David’s Centre opportunity arose we grabbed it.”
For Animal and Somerset-based Tony Pryce Sports, this is the fourth franchise store out of a total chain of 10. The St David’s Centre Animal store will be bringing a taste of skate, surf and street life through its clothing and accessory ranges to Cardiff’s growing urban chic population.
EJ Hales acted on behalf of Land Securities, owner of the St David’s Centre. Brasier Harris acted on behalf of Animal and Dalgleish acted on behalf of the Gadget Shop.
