Retail Bulletin Jobs website highlights demand for career information
October 5 2003
The success of the new Retail Bulletin Jobs website highlights the demand for information on career paths through retail.

As well as featuring details of current vacancies from leading retail recruitment agencies and directly form retailers, the site includes information on training and qualifications needed at various levels of the industry. The information has been accessed thousands of times since the site launched.
One recent entrant to the trade is Nicola Constantine, 27, who is now an assistant manager at London clothing store Kings Road Sporting Club after embarking on a Modern Apprenticeship.
Having completed and AMA level 3 in Retail/customer services, Nicola was offered the place on the Apprenticeship by her employer. Nicky believes the MA has increased her employability, and expects the qualification to help her to make further progress into management.
Nicola said: “Completing a Modern Apprenticeship gave me the opportunity to boost both my skills and my employability. I would recommend Modern Apprenticeships to any young person wanting a sound start to their career, upon which they can build their portfolio of skills.”
Modern Apprenticeships are training and education programmes designed for 16 to 24-year-olds. They offer young people the opportunity to start their career through a combination of off and on-the-job learning and practical work experience.
Mark Evans, head of work-based learning for the Learning and Skills Council London said: “Exam results can be a tricky time, with many school-leavers not knowing what they really want to do. Modern Apprenticeships offer a brilliant way of getting your foot on the career ladder, with a structured learning plan to ensure you end up with the right qualifications to see you go further in life.”
He added: “The sky really is the limit with Modern Apprenticeships. Hairdresser to the stars John Frieda; top chefs and restaurateurs Gordon Ramsay, Gary Rhodes and Jamie Oliver; famous gardener Alan Titchmarsh; fashionistas Karen Millen and Alexander McQueen; and comedian Billy Connolly all started their careers as apprentices. So there really is no limit to what you can achieve.”
