Reliance Retail opens 12 stores in Chennai
Reliance Retail has launched 12 Reliance Fresh stores in Chennai.
Gunender Kapur, President and CEO of Food Business, said the Reliance Fresh stores would have pan-India presence, with 40 Reliance Fresh stores currently operation in Hyderabad, Jaipur and Chennai. “We are developing the Reliance Fresh chain as a neighbourhood food store, with each store coming up between 2,000 sq ft to 4,000 sq ft of space. We will be relevant for all income groups in a neighbourhood,” Mr Gunendar Kapur the Head of Reliance Retail. The stores are backed by a supply chain, which goes right up to the farm gate to procure the produce for which the company has an exemption from the State Government under the Agricultural Produce Marketing Act, said Mr Sanjeev Asthana, President and Chief Executive, Agri and Food Supply Chain, Reliance Retail.He added that the company will approach other State governments for similar exemptions which will allow Reliance to source produce directly from farmers.
