Red Tractor scheme seeks new chairman

Assured Food Standards, the company that operates the Red Tractor scheme, is looking to appoint a new chairman to replace David Gregory when he stands down later this year.

AFS is an independent body owned by the food chain and is responsible for managing and promoting the Red Tractor food assurance scheme and logo.

British Retail Consortium policy director Andrew Opie said: “Under David Gregory’s inspirational leadership Red Tractor has firmly consolidated its reputation as a trusted standard for quality, conscientiously produced food and drink amongst retailers and consumers alike. Its continued growth in the last few years has been impressive.”

Gregory has completed the maximum term of six years’ service as chairman. AFS said the right candidate will have experience of accountability at board and chair level and a good knowledge of the food supply chain.

Meurig Raymond, National Farmers Union president, said: “The chairmanship of AFS is a key role and I want to thank David Gregory for leading the company forward, securing its financial position and ensuring synergy between all the sectors involved in Red Tractor. Consumers clearly wish to buy British produce of the highest standard and we therefore need someone of equal calibre going forward to further grow and develop Red Tractor as a leading brand, demonstrating British food produced to the highest standards.”

The new chairman will be required from the end of September 2015 for 50 days a year.
