Quiksilver names Andy Mooney as new CEO as co-founder steps down

Surfwear brand Quiksilver has announced that co-founder Robert McKnight will step down from the position of chief executive officer and will be succeeded by former Disney executive Andy Mooney.

McKnight, who co-founded Quiksilver in 1976, will become the company’s executive chairman on 11 January when Mooney will take up the position of CEO.

Mooney was previously chairman of Disney Consumer Products where he was responsible for worldwide licensing, publishing and retail businesses. Prior to that, Mooney spent 20 years at sporting goods giant Nike.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Quiksilver was looking for a successor to McKnight who had experience of bigger brands, electronic commerce and global reach. McKnight is quoted as saying: “I’ve been with the company for 35 years, and it’s the only job I’ve ever had. It’s time to really take this to a bigger and better place.”

Never Miss a Retail Update!

Quiksilver has a worldwide network of more than 600 stores worldwide and operates in 90 countries.
