Primark to anchor Whitefriars shopping centre

Primark has signed a deal to anchor the Whitefriars shopping centre in Canterbury alongside existing anchors Fenwick and Marks & Spencer.

The fashion retailer is to take a 40,300 sq ft unit which will open in the summer of 2014. The store will be situated at the entrance to the Marlowe Arcade in a unit currently occupied by BHS.

Meanwhile, eclectic product store Tiger Retail will take a 2,700 sq ft unit in the centre’s Whitefriars Street.

Operated by Henderson Global Investors, Whitefriars is also home to retailers such as Topshop, Next, Zara, Hobbs, Karen Millen, H&M, Boots and River Island.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

Jason Boyce, senior portfolio manager for Henderson Shopping Centre Fund, said: ”Attracting such strong brands with exceptional covenants is testimony to the strength of the retail market in Canterbury.

“From our perspective, the fundamental investment criteria in Canterbury are sound. Along with a tenant mix that continues to grow in strength, the City is underpinned by a solid tourism trade.

“With the news of other deals in the pipeline, we fully expect to increase volumes of visitors from within Whitefriars catchment in the New Year when the stores open.”
