Metrocentre in Gateshead has celebrated its 25th anniversary with the launch of a new flagship Primark store.
The 58,700 sq ft unit on the ground and first floors of the centre comprises the former Woolworths store, adjacent space and a new 15,000 sq ft rear extension. Primark previously operated from a 34,400 sq ft store on the ground floor.
The opening follows a number of new lettings for the centre including the first stores in the north east for Boux Avenue and The Entertainer.
The new flagship store marks Metrocentre’s third new anchor in three years following deals with the Odeon and TK Maxx. Marks and Spencer is also revamping its store in centre with the work due for completion by Christmas.
