Poundland to open up to 20 stores on former Poundworld sites
Poundland is to open up to 20 new stores by taking over large former Poundworld sites.
The move follows the collapse of the Poundworld chain over the summer.
As well as offering Poundland’s core general merchandise and food ranges, eight of the stores will stock the PEP&CO casual value fashion brand.
Poundland’s UK & Ireland managing director Barry Williams said: “We’re trading strongly and stores with a PEP&CO fashion store are a hit with customers,” said That’s why we’re keen to find larger sites that enable us to bring our widest ranges to more high streets across the country. However, we can only do this if landlords really change their expectations about the total cost of occupation to reflect the new realities of UK retail.”
The first phase of openings will include locations in Edinburgh, Killingworth, East Kilbride and Ayr. The retailer said most of the stores are expected to open in October.
With the new stores creating over 400 jobs, Poundland is urging former Poundworld staff to get in touch for guaranteed interviews.
