Phase Eight signs up for store at Whiteley
Phase Eight has become the latest retailer to sign up for a store at Whiteley, the new 320,000 sq ft shopping centre in Hampshire.
The centre, which is jointly owned by British Land and the Universities Superannuation Scheme, received more than 750,000 visitors during its first month of trading. The ‘next generation’ scheme was launched by on 23 May with 48,000 shoppers attending the launch.
Anchored by a 60,000 sq ft Marks & Spencer, the centre has 58 stores including Topshop, Next, H&M, River Island, Next and Fat Face, as well as a number of local independent retailers.
Claire Barber, head of shopping centre asset management for British Land, said: “The response from shoppers and retailers since opening has been amazing. With a unique blend of high street and independent retailers, Whiteley provides many reasons to visit and is well balanced to meet the different ways in which people shop.”

Whiteley is situated between the two harbour cities of Portsmouth and Southampton. British Land estimates that the scheme has a catchment of 1.2 million people with an estimated £3.1 billion potential spend.
