Pharmacy sales ahead of forecasts at Alliance Unichem

Expansion prgramme to continue
Alliance Unichem has reported retail sales ahead of forecast across the start of its financial year, balanced by a slowdown in growth in its wholesale arm.

In a statement to the pharmacy group’s annual meeting, chairman Jeff Harris said that across the first quarter Alliance “has delivered a strong financial performance which is in line with our overall expectations”.
The retail division, which includes the Moss Pharamcy chain in the UK, continues to perform strongly, “just ahead” of expectations, while growth in the wholesale division has been slower than in 2004 mainly due to the implementation in the UK of 7 per cent price cuts by the Department of Health.
Harris said: “The group continues to seek opportunities to expand, both in countries where we operate and beyond, and to drive enhanced performance from our businesses, in line with our well established strategy.”
Harris, who is retiring from the board and handing over to new chairman Paolo Scaroni, said: “I see Alliance UniChem as strong today as it has ever been with a management team well equipped to build on this success.”
