Pets at Home like-for-likes up 2.2%

Pets at Home grew its like-for-like sales by 2.2% in its third quarter.

In the 12 weeks to 31 December, merchandise like-for-like growth was 1.7% as trade was boosted by strength in advanced nutrition, omnichannel and recovering sales in the health and hygiene category.

Meanwhile, services like-for-like sales increased by 8.5% driven by a strong performance in vet and grooming services.

Pets at Homes total revenue climbed by 7.1% to £195.1 million in the period.

During the quarter Pets at Home opened seven superstores, one Barkers store, 15 grooming salons and six veterinary practices.

It also launched a trial format ‘Whiskers ‘n Paws by Pets at Home’ high street shop in Dorking.

Pets at Home said it is on track to deliver between 20 and 25 new Pets at Home stores, five Barkers, 50 to 55 vet practices and 55 to 60 grooming salons in the 2016 financial year.

Nick Wood, chief executive of Pets at Home said: “We are pleased with the improved trading momentum in our merchandise business, alongside continued strength in our vet and grooming services.

“We are also delighted with our acquisition of one of the UK’s leading specialist hospitals, Anderson Moores, which further develops our presence in this important strategic segment of the veterinary market.

“I would like to thank all our colleagues for their hard work through the busy festive period. We look forward to further growth and expansion in 2016.”
