Pets at Home appoints Ian Burke as new chairman

Pets at Home Group has appointed Ian Burke to succeed its outgoing non-executive chairman Tony DeNunzio.

The move follows both an external and internal search process.

Burke has been chair of Studio Retail Group since 2017 and is also a non-executive senior independent director of Intu. In addition, he has held numerous board positions in the past including chief executive of Thistle Hotels, chair of Vet Partners, and non-executive chairman, executive chairman and chief executive of Rank Group.

Peter Pritchard, Pets at Home group chief executive, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Ian, as our new chairman, and look forward to working alongside him as we continue to deliver our exciting strategy.”

DeNunzio will be remaining in his position for the time being to ensure an orderly handover. Burke will take up his new role at the start of Pets at Home’s new financial year.

Pritchard said DeNunzio had been an exceptional chairman for the last ten years during which time the company moved from being a private business to a listed company. He added: “He has supported our business in implementing the strategic plan to become “The World’s Best Pet Care Business”, bringing everything together for the pet owner, driven by data and insight. Our recent performance is reflective of the progress we are making by focusing on our core capabilities and differences.”
