Pasty entrepreneur plans new drive-thru concept
The entrepreneur who launched The West Cornwall Pasty Company is planning a new retail concept in the form of a pasty drive-thru.
Ken Cocking, his sons Arron and Gavin, and business partner Mark Christophers, found a suitable site for the venture on the outskirts of Helston in Cornwall earlier this year. Cocking has now instructed architects to draw up plans for the 2.25 acre site.
Cocking told This is Cornwall: “We’ve been down to check it out and it lends itself perfectly to what we want. We liked the idea when we had the West Cornwall Pasty Company. Back then we sponsored the Helston Town Band and football club and held Cornish pasty taster sessions in London’s Covent Garden.
“We got bored and thought, ‘Come on let’s have a go’. This isn’t just a bit of fun – we don’t play at things – but it’s all pie-in-the-sky until we get planning permission.”
The family sold The West Cornwall Pasty Company four years ago in a management buyout worth £30 million.
