One Stop to launch in-store beacon service

Tesco owned convenience chain One Stop has teamed up with magazine publisher IPC Media to launch beacon technology in 740 stores.

The new service means that customers can receive offers direct to their smartphone when they enter their local store.

Starting on 1 September and running to the end of the month, the IPC Media campaign will offer customers discounted copies of IPC magazines Chat, Pick Me Up, Woman and TV & Satellite Week.

To receive the offers, customers will need to download the One Stop or Appflare Redeem app, turn their notifications on and enable their Bluetooth connection when they enter the store.  They will then be sent the discount codes direct to their smartphone through Beacon technology.

The discount codes can be redeemed at the till or shared with friends via Facebook.

Lizzie Reynolds, head of marketing at One Stop, said: “Our aim is to set the standard in retail convenience, so we are really pleased to be pioneering this new service for our customers.  Mobile is an incredibly important channel for our customers and we want to offer them the best shopping experience in both bricks and clicks.”

Katharine Challinor, retail sales director at IPC Media, added: “As part of this campaign, we will be giving One Stop customers thousands of the nation’s favourite magazines at discounted prices. We are incredibly excited to launch a wide-scale campaign promoting our brands via Beacon technology. The technology will give us an innovative new way to interact with our readers, at the point of sale, in a way that we know will be timely and relevant.”
