Obituary: Ashley Major
Ashley Major, finance director at The Entertainer, has died aged 52 after a short illness.
Having joined The Entertainer in 1995, Ashley was initially appointed as office accountant when the company had just seven stores. He was soon promoted to finance controller and was then appointed as finance director in 2007. During his period of service, The Entertainer grew its store estate to 105 shops.
In a statement, The Entertainer said: “Ashley was a valued and integral member of The Entertainer team, a member of the Board and, equally importantly, a valued and faithful colleague who has served alongside the growing senior team for the past twenty years.
“Ashley epitomised everything that was good about The Entertainer; growing with the business during 20 years’ service, he created a great team that shared those values. In those 20 years Ashley’s knowledge, expertise, kindness, and humour has shaped many aspects of the business it has become today.
“Ashley will be sorely missed not only as a business colleague but as a friend to many people throughout The Entertainer, across the retail and finance sector. It would be an understatement to say that he was fully committed to The Entertainer – it would be difficult to find a more loyal and faithful colleague.
“He was a family man, first and foremost, finding time in more recent years for an appreciation of life’s simpler pleasures – walking, photography – and, of course, his love of cricket. He leaves two sons and a daughter, all of whom made him very proud.”
