Obama urges Tesco to work with Unions

US Presidential candidate Barack Obama has written to Sir Terry Leahy over the Fresh & Easy relationship with trade unions.

Mr Obama, who is the Democrat’s Presidential Candidate, criticised Tesco’s Fresh & Easy which he alleges has not “engaged positively with its stakeholders and refuses to meet United Food and Commercial Worker’s Union to discuss the principles of partnership.” Obama said “I strongly request that you revisit that decision.” In the letter Obama goes on to say: “I am aware of Tesco’s reputation in Britain as a partner to unions. I would hope that you would bring those values to your work in America. Ensuring that workers are able to organize and work in safe, rewarding environments were an important part of my campaign for the Democratic nomination, as they will be in my campaign for the Presidency.”
