NRF Report: Localised PoS solutions in demand by expanding UK retailers

Retailers are increasingly looking to work with IT firms with international capabilities as they seek to grow their organisations beyond the UK and into new markets including the emerging economies. By Glynn Davis in New York

Internationalisation is such a growing issue for UK retailers that IT firm Cegid is attracting new clients because of the increasingly broad range of countries for which it can provide localised Point-of-Sale (PoS) solutions.

At the National Retail Federation (NRF) Big Show in New York this week Tania Oakey, marketing director of Cegid, highlighted how it had won the business of Ted Baker and recently signed up Barbour because it can provide localised solutions – for fixed and increasingly mobile tills.

This means all the elements specific to each market – including fiscal, legal, CRM, accounting and language requirements – are provided by Cegid. It recently localised its software for use in Sweden and is set to open up in fast-growing markets like Brazil, Russia and Dubai, which retailers are finding increasingly attractive.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

“Brazil is a huge local market but it is very complicated with lots of localisation. We want to be one of the first to offer a localised PoS solution in that market. Our key strength is to help UK retailers go overseas. We helped Ted Baker go into Asia,” says Oakey.

Such is the demand for the company’s localised solutions that she says as much as 80% of the potential new business it is hoping to win will be a result of its international capabilities.

The luxury goods companies in particular are keen to enter new markets like Brazil and other emerging markets, which will likely prove very beneficial for Cegid in the future.
