Next signs up to Resorts World

Next has been confirmed as the third anchor store within the new integrated leisure and entertainment complex Resorts World Birmingham.

The fashion and homewares retailer will take a 10,000 square foot space at the complex’s 50 unit outlet centre to join Nike and Gap Outlet as anchor tenants.

In addition, TGI Friday’s and Pizza Express have signed lease agreements to be part of the complex’s food and beverage offer. TGI’s will take a space of 6,200 square feet while Pizza Express will occupy a 3,000 square feet unit.

Due to open this summer, Resorts World is aiming to change the landscape of the leisure and entertainment market in the UK by bringing together retail outlet shopping, hospitality and entertainment all under one roof. As well as retail, the £150 million scheme will include a four star boutique hotel and spa, a cinema and a casino.

Resorts World Birmingham will join a family of Resorts World locations in Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and the US and will be the first to open in Europe. The complex is owned and operated by Genting UK, part of the Malaysian based Genting Group.

Steve Myers, Genting UK’s managing director of development, said: “Next is one of the UK’s most popular and successful retail brands and we welcome them to the Resorts World development as one of the three anchor retail units.

“In addition, having exchanged agreements with both Pizza Express and TGI’s, we have secured two further national operators to the scheme in line with our leasing strategy. We are excited by these additions to the tenant mix, which is crucial to us as owner operators, and will shortly be announcing further high profile operators for the remaining retail and leisure space.”
