New survey reveals that 80% believe best bargains are found online
New research from Shopping.com has revealed that 80% of people believe that the best shopping deals are to be found online.
Just 3% of the 1360 people surveyed by the shopping comparison site said they expected to find the best bargains on the high street.
Over of a third said they found it easier to part with money online with 15% admitting to spending more than £1,000 online for a single purchase. A huge 91% said they preferred online shopping to the high street.
The main reasons given for choosing to buy online were a dislike of queues (40%), and the greater choice of products online (41%).
When it came to shopping on mobile phones, more than one in ten respondents said they had used their smart phone to make a purchase.
Russ Carroll, UK Managing Director of Shopping.com, said: “The value offered by shopping online is borne out in our survey results. Comparison sites like Shopping.com ensure that customers are getting the best price available. It’s interesting to see that more than one in ten people have shopped using their mobile phone, a figure that will only grow as more and more people have smart phones with data included in their phone tariffs.”
The survey also found that half the respondents said they mainly shop online for themselves with only 9% saying most of their online spending was for gifts for friends and family. 5% of those surveyed admitted to dodgy online purchases when bored or after having too much to drink. One respondent admitted buying a ride-on lawn mower despite having no garden, while others regretted purchasing a Dukes of Hazzard car horn and an 11ft dinghy, said Shopping.com.
