New Sainsbury’s finance chief sets start date
Darren Shapland to start in August
Sainsbury’s has announced that new chief financial officer Darren Shapland will take up his post on August 1.
Shapland, whose appointment was announced in March, is joining the supermarket group from Carpetright. He replaces Roger Matthews, who is retiring in June.
Jonny Mason, Sainsbury’s director of supermarket finance, is to run the finance function and represent it on Sainsbury’s operating board in the meantime.
Carpetright chairman Lord Harris said: “We thank Darren for all his efforts on our behalf during his time with us and wish him every success in his new role at Sainsbury’s. The process to recruit Darren’s successor is making good progress and we will make a further announcement as soon as we have finalised the appointment.”
Sainsbury’s has also announced that Stephen Nelson, marketing director, will leave the company this summer to take up the role of retail director at BAA.
