New MD for Woolworths big W

Ex-Dixons MD to drive out-of-town superstore format.
June 5 2002
Woolworths has announced the appointment of Jonathan Hart as managing director of the out-of-town Woolworths big W format.

Hart, 41, has background including two at Tesco and 14 years at Dixons Group, where he was groupm managing director for Dixons, The Link and PC World. His time at Currys saw the expansion of the megastore format. He left Dixons in 2000 to become chief executive of internet company ITM Communications.
Trevor Bish-Jones, Woolworths Group plc Chief Executive, said, “I am delighted we have been able to attract someone of Jonathan’s experience and calibre. He joins us on June 11, which will give him an immediate opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the current review of the big W format, the fastest growing part of our Group.
“Jonathan takes over from Bob Hetherington who has made a tremendous contribution to our company over the last three years. We thank him for this and wish him well in the future.”
Big w has added the Woolworths name to its fascia to link it more closely to the parent brand.
