New chief exec arrives at Alliance Unichem
Ian Meakins joins pharmacy chain
Ian Meakins has taken up his new post as chief executive of pharmacy retail and wholesale business Alliance UniChem.
Meakins, whose appointment was announced in July 2004, joins the business from drinks giant Diageo, where he was president, major markets and Global Supply.
The change sees a change in the key roles at Alliance Unichem, with Stefano Pessina moving from the position of chief executive to become executive deputy chairman with responsibility for strategic development, including acquisitions. Jeff Harris remains as chairman.
The group has been on the acquisition trail for some time, buying small chains and individual businesses, and now operates more than 1,130 pharmacies across Europe. Its 600 UK pharmacies include the Moss Chemist chain.
